The Mormon Candidate was a 2012 BBC documentary that looks at the Mormon religion and the effect being a Mormon will have on then Presidential candidate Mitt Romney. The film is presented from John Sweeney who we know from investigating another fringe religion in Panorama : Church Of Scientology. Sweeney first looks at the history of the Mormon church which was founded by Joseph Smith circa 1830. The church has a growing membership but is trying to rid itself of some of the stigma associated as a result of former practices such as Polygamy. The documentary does look at Romney's connections to a church were he was a preacher and how it would effect a run for presidency but in many ways it's a film about Mormonism in general.

Slacker Uprising: Captain Mike Across America

Slacker Uprising is a documentary by renowned film maker Michael Moore, the film is a renamed and updated version of a documentary he had shown a year earlier called Captain Mike Across America. Not for the first time George W. Bush received focus from a Moore documentary, but the main focus was on getting the youth and slackers out to vote in the (at the time) upcoming presidential election.

In the documentary we see Moore travel across America visiting collages and other youth venues in an effort to get young people to use the power of their votes. It was building to be one of the closest Presidential elections in American History so Moore even offers gifts (Albeit Underwear and Noodles) to those who promise to shut off cellphones and computers for an hour and use the right many peoples are not afforded.

Vladimir Putin : The Putin System

Vladimir Putin a former KGB spy is currently serving for the second time as President of Russia. Elected in 2000 Putin served two terms but as in the USA; two four year terms was the limit. When he stepped down to be proceeded by Dmitry Medvedev in 2008 he took over as Prime Minister but he wanted the power of Presidency back and he wouldn't have to wait long to regain it. While Putin was Prime Minister Russian law changed to make the presidency a six year term rather than four and having sat out for a term Putin was ready to strike again. This move was not popular with many Russians but he still won the 2012 election and Medveded's time in The Grand Kremlin Palace were over.

This documentary looks at the popularity and power Putin has built with old Russian beliefs and a hands on Presidency. But the main feature is his desire to return to the old Russian empire and the steps he is willing to take to achieve such a goal. The film meets with those inside Russian politics as well as former colleges and experts to find out about whats being labeled "The Putin System". Is he cracking down on all opposition, keeping hold of out dated often racist views and looking to restore Russian sovereignty ? If so what will the effect be not only on Russians but the rest of the world ?

The Fall Of Britain : Plague Of The Black Debt

In this documentary the case is put forward that Britain is on the verge of financial ruin. With borrowing at an unsustainable level the UK can't possibly repay their debts and history has shown this can only end in collapse. Figures provided by financial magazine Money Week paint a dark picture and they claim none of the facts they use can be questioned.

Reduced interest rates they claim was the hook that lead to this extraordinary level of borrowing. Now even a slight hike in these interest rates would make future borrowing impossible. Could Britain once ruler of two thirds of the globe really collapse ? How much debt is Britain really in ?

North Korea Undercover BBC Panorama

We have covered North Korea in previous documentaries this time experienced investigative journalist John Sweeney visits North Korea in the guise of a tourist (they never reveal they are journalists or they would not get visas). Sweeney wants to see what really goes on in the worlds most secretive nation. North Korea has been accused of crimes against humanity with it's people living in poverty and is still recovering from famine all the while they claim to have nuclear weapons that would cost billions.

As with other DPRK documentaries journalists that visit the country are extremely limited as to what they can film. Visitors are escorted by guides at all times and all trips are pre-planned, you see what they want you to see. However Sweeney and the Panorama team do manage to get some footage the Kim Jong-un government would rather not be seen.Sweeney also seems more determined to ask questions even if answers are not forthcoming, hardly surprising with reports that speaking ill of the Supreme leader and the country comes with a death sentence.

Inside North Korea

Inside North Korea follows Shane Smith of Vice as he; after giving up on getting a visa to visit North Korea flies to South Korea. His plan is to check out the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and at least get a look across the border at the North. But while in South Korea a chain of events lead to Smith getting one of the extremely few visas issued and he's on his way to Pyongyang the North Korean capital.

The documentary shows the bizarre way Smith and his camera man are treated while there.Constantly chaperoned; visitors are on a bus tour of sorts to pre-determined landmarks and points of interest. If Smith thought he was going to get some kind of expose on people or reported living conditions in DPRK the strict schedule and escort put paid to that.

Nonetheless it's fascinating seeing the crew man-managed, visitors strictly prohibited from even leaving the hotel unescorted. There is a seemingly god like status of not only the current "Supreme Leader" Kim Jong-un but also former leaders his Farther Kim Jong-il and Grandfather Kim Il-sung.Absolute anti American rhetoric is in place since the Korean war, Yanks seem to be the fault for all bad.Smith also brings some humour to the process which by the end is turning into anger.
