Hackers: Outlaws or Patriots ? is a documentary that covers the subject of hacking from it's early days to modern super hackers but the film has it's own ironic story. Asking the question are hackers all bad or can we compare them to other renegades of the past which history has looked fondly upon ? The film itself underwent a number of name changes originally known as Can You Hack It? - Hackers Wanted and was leaked online by what may be seen as hackers in 2010.

It's a story you couldn't make up 25 year old Troy Duffy had wrote a film script on a cheap computer in the back of a bar  and somehow managed to pitch it to Harvey Weinstein the head of Miramax. The script for Duffy's film impressed Weinstein who bought it for $300,000 agreeing to let Duffy make the film with a budget of $15 Million. Duffy's band which included his brother would also provide the score for the film, there was even an agreement for the bar Duffy worked in to be bought for him. In the documentary the footage for which Duffy had some friends film to document his rise to stardom we see events play out. As ego's grow it's often cringe worthy but with Duffy's dreams crumbling around him it's this ego that often make it hard for the viewer to sympathize.

Charles Manson: Journey Into Evil

In the late 1960's Charles Manson had set up a commune of people that referred to themselves as The Family. In 1969 Manson and the family went from petty criminals to cold blooded murderers. In two nights August 9th and 10th 1969 they carried out the brutal murders of seven people. The crimes being in Los Angeles and including the murder of actress Sharon Tate wife of film director Roman Polanski caused panic in the area among those in the film industry believing actors may be targeted if the murder spree continued. In the documentary we hear directly from Manson serving life imprisonment and fellow convicted family members Patricia Krenwinkel and Leslie Van Houten.

In 2010 a story broke that swept the world, it was the story of 33 miners trapped 2,300 feet below ground in the Copiapó copper and gold mine in Chile. The public around the world could not get enough of it and the media didn't disappoint especially 24 hour news channels. It was though a story of bravery and hope and with governments around the world offering help in the way of machinery, expertise and finance for once people saw countries working together for a common cause.
