Muhammad Ali: When We Were Kings

When We Were Kings documents the build up, promotion, political and racial issues surrounding the 1974 fight between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman, the film won the Academy Award For Best Documentary in 1996. In this boxing documentary we see how Ali used the fight and it's location in Zaire (which is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo) to connect with his African roots and highlight racism against African-Americans.

The fight that would be known as "The Rumble in the Jungle" was Ali's chance to win back the world title he was stripped of when he refused draft into the US Army it was also the first major fight promoted by Don King. Controversy came with the option to stage the fight in a country ruled by Mobutu Sese Seko who had looked to use the fight to further his political standing despite his records of corruption, nepotism, and embezzlement.

Bare Knuckle Boxing

Bare Knuckle Boxing has been around for hundreds of years, in it's current form as an underground sport. It's a tough guy sport usually associated with Tattoo laden Irish travelers and skin head British hard men, but some want bare knuckle boxing to go main stream. Andy Topliffe is one such person and he strongly believes there is a place for Bare Knuckle Boxing in the mainstream. Andy has founded a fledgling promotion company with ambitions to take contact sport out of the underground, kicking off with a highly anticipated Britain Versus America Bare Knuckle contest. In the film Clive Martin of vice meets with Andy Topliffe and some of the most revered Bare Knuckle fighters in scenes that resemble something from Fight Club meets Snatch.
