Hurricane Katrina: When The Levees Broke

When The Levees Broke A Requiem in Four Parts is a documentary by Spike Lee covering the devastating affects of Hurricane Katrina on New Orleans in 2005. The film was broken into four parts all which can be seen below. In the documentary we see the devastation caused in New Orleans when the Levees (Flood Walls) broke in over 50 places. Over 80% of New Orleans was flooded, over 100,000 homes and businesses were flooded and almost 1,000 people lost their lives. The documentary interviews experts in a number of fields who look at how the disaster happened, how it might have been prevented and efforts to prevent similar future events. Lee however gives the main attention of the documentary to those effected the most by the New Orleans floods.

Now in this documentary National Geographic has combined the most amazing moments they caught on camera. We see a reporter vanish below the ocean surface on a hunt for the Titanic, another get attacked by sharks and in a Taliban stronghold a reporter must dodge rockets. But it's not all danger we also find some of the truly amazing time Nat Geo cameras were able to capture nature at it's best.

We get to track the bird that was at one stage threatened with extirpation in the USA. Neil sees how they hunt, breed and we even go inside the nest of a Bald eagle to find some surprises. Then with hidden cameras in the nest we see a pair of eagles work constantly to protect the eggs from which their young will emerge. The life cycle starts again as the young eagles now learn to hunt and fend for themselves.

Holland has always been fighting the north sea and without measures currently in place much of the country would already be swamp or under water.Barriers called The Delta Works are holding back the sea for now but what can be done going forward. Climate change could have a huge impact on the levels and tide of the north sea so can the dutch continue to hold it back ? This documentary looks at how they have fought back the sea for over two thousand years, current measures in place and what the future may hold.

Under Antarctic Ice from the Nature series is narrated by Hillary Swank in which a group of divers, scientists and photographers go "to the ice". We see amazing pictures from under the largest ice cap on earth, 14 KM squared that's 98% covered in Ice. The extreme conditions are also a huge challenge for the scientists carrying out experiments on and under the ice.We follow the team from their base in New Zealand to the Antarctic which will be their home for the next few weeks. What lies below the ice of the Antarctic ?
