The Dark Side Of Chocolate is a 2010 documentary in which Danish reporter Miki Mistrati sets out to highlight child labour and trafficking in Chocolate production. In 2000 The BBC produced a programme on Slavery still occurring around the world including in the cocoa industry which led to an immediate response from the Chocolate Manufacturers Association. The BBC had showed child labour and evidence of human trafficking on cocoa plantations in Africa, the Chocolate Manufacturers subsequently signed an agreement in 2001 to eradicate such labour.
Miki Mistrati wants to show the Chocolate Manufacturers have not took the steps promised and after asking chocolate vendors in Germany if they knew were there chocolate was sourced he left for Africa. Often using hidden cameras to capture footage Mistrati visits the cocoa plantations in Mali and The Ivory Coast to find evidence of children being forced to work.
