Netscape, Microsoft & The Internet Browser Wars

In this installment of Bloomberg Game changers is Marc Andreessen, he will not be an as recognizable name let alone face as for example Bill Gates or Steve Jobbs but he played a major role in the web we know today. Back when he was at collage Marc created the first mainstream web browser called Mosaic, not getting the credit he deserved for the browser he left collage and with the backing of venture capitalist Jim Clark created a whole new browser that would become known as Netscape.

In the documentary we see how Netscape had unprecedented early success until Microsoft realised they had missed a trick and went to battle with their new browser Internet Explorer in a time known as the Browser Wars. After Netscape was sold Andreessen went on to more success with ventures such as Loudcloud and another browser Mozilla Firefox but he has now gone full circle to be an investor in tech start ups himself. Along with friend Ben Horowitz he has interest in a huge number of tech companies including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Foursquare.
