I Am: What’s Wrong With the World? What Can We Do About it?

It may seem strange that we find Tom Shadyac the director of comedy films such as Ace Ventura and The Nutty Professor making a serious (although scattered with lighthearted moments) documentary about what's wrong with the world. Shadyac might never have taken this road had he not taken a fall on another road, a serious bicycle accident in 2007 left him with Post-Concussion Syndrome (PCS). With PCS the symptoms of concussion linger long after the accident leaving sufferers with constant headaches, irrational thought and other emotional issues.

By the time the symptoms subsided Shadyac had a different view on life or at least a stronger connection to the view that there is something wrong with the world. At the heart of the film is the question Is there an underlying problem that leads to our consumer culture, the way we act, treat our fellow man and our planet?  In the film he tells his story and meets with spiritual leaders, scientists, environmentalists and philosophers such as Desmond Tutu, Noam Chomsky, Coleman Barks, Elisabet Sahtouris, David Suzuki and Howard Zinn to get their opinions.
