Bigger Than Enron

Bigger than Enron is such an amazing documentary considering what happened in the years after it was originally aired on PBS Frontline. The focus is on accounting firms such as Arthur Andersen and on Congress that turned a blind eye helping these seemingly untouchable company's crumble. A previous documentary in our collection Enron : The Smartest Guys In The Room from 2007 is a favorite of mine and a must watch.But Bigger Than Enron from 2002 really shows the warning signs for the collapse of the western economy in 2008 was predicted but these warning signs were not heeded.

Amazingly the tag line used by PBS to promote this episode of Frontline in 2002 was "Why the largest business scandal in American history is just the tip of the Iceberg - and why investors should care".

Enron The Smartest Guys In The Room

Enron was one of the documentaries that got me really interested in the genre online and makes our Must Watch List. While I always loved documentaries before Enron I didn't know how many could be sourced online. I guess what I like most about Enron is director Alex Gibney could have focused on the huge amounts of money involved but he rather put the focus on the people involved. I think most who have not seen Enron The Smartest Guys In The Room yet will be as shocked even after the Financial crisis of 2008 as those who watched it first in 2007.Kenneth Lay, Jeff Skilling and Andy Fastow thought they and Enron were bullet proof this documentary show just how wrong they were.
