The Battle Of Chernobyl

In April 1986 the biggest nuclear disaster in history occurred in Chernobyl, Ukraine. Now twenty years later film maker Thomas Johnson tells the story of the disaster with previously unseen documents and video footage. The full effects of the explosion in the Chernobyl nuclear power plant were in many ways covered up, while the world knew any Nuclear accident was a serious issue over the years as secret documents have been released the full picture has emerged. In the documentary we also hear the story of those who fought to prevent an even larger disaster as fires spread and threatened to cause further reactors to explode. Indeed if the fires could not be controlled it's estimated half of Europe could have been immediately effected, the whole of Europe could have become a wasteland. Contributing to the film are many who worked in the Power Plant, Experts in Nuclear power, Journalists including the first on the scene Igor Kostin and politicians including then USSR First Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev.
