Servants: The Real Downton Abbey
This 2012 BBC documentary series titled "Servants: The True Story of Life Below Stairs" looks at the million servants still working in stately homes across the United Kingdom at the beginning of the last century. With the huge popularity of the TV show Downton Abbey many have asked if the life of Servants is properly portrayed in the show. Downton by no means suggests servant life was easy but those old enough to remember and evidence available shows a harder life and darker side to treatment of Servants. We know Downton Abby is set in the years from 1912, in the first episode news of the Titanic sinking reaches the house and it's there the documentary starts as well.
