In Love with Adolf Hitler is a 2007 documentary that details the women in Adolf Hitlers life with the main focus on the woman who would become his wife for 40 hours before their double suicide Eva Braun. Hitler had a number of known close relationships with women but in most cases it's unknown just how close they were. One early relationship with Charlotte Lobjoie in 1917 could have bore him a son, or so claimed Lobjoie's son Jean-Marie Loretwho said his mother told him before she died Hitler was his father. Hitler was speculated to have had a sexual relationship with his half niece Geli Raubal circa 1925 who would later commit suicide in 1931. But the longest relationship he had was with Eva Braun and her fascination with film and desire to be an actress and film maker provides us with extraordinary footage that shows The Fuehrer like never before. Relaxing, Meeting with friends and Nazi party leaders, playing with children and his beloved dog Blondi.
These shots are paired in a timeline of the war and atrocities around Europe. As he drinks tea with Albert Speer his architect (soon to be Minister of Armaments and War Production) German forces are invading Poland. While talking to Braun and her friends tens of thousands of German soldiers are dying in the failed attempt to invade Russia. Braun herself seems oblivious to world events and the camera also goes with her on holiday and family visits without Hitler. The Smithsonian documentary does also ask the question "How much did she know, or did she care ?".
