Born Into Brothels: Calcutta's Red Light Kids

Born Into Brothels looks at the children of prostitutes in Sonagachi India, Sonagachi is thought be be Asia's largest red light district. The film by Zana Briski and Ross Kauffman won the 2004 Academy Award For Best Documentary Feature. Briski a photographer had gone to Sonagachi to stay with and photograph the prostitutes and while there she thought the kids who had shown an interest in taking pictures how to work a camera. Indeed she gifts each of the kids a camera of their own and it's their photos that show the unseen side of growing up in a Brothel.
