An interesting film by legendary British documentary maker David Attenborough the title How Many People Can Live on Planet Earth ? explains the basic premise. I guess the most striking stat in the film is the jump in population from two and half billion in 1950 to almost seven billion when the film was made in 2009 (It's now 7.22 Billion at the start of 2015). Attenborough travels worldwide looking at population growth and the effect this has had on the earths resources thus the effect for future generations.
