1916: The Man Who Lost Ireland

In 1916 Ireland what would become known as The Easter Rising took place as Irish republicans took up arms to Fight against British rule and looked to establish a Republic. The Rising lasted only six days but the events of the rising and more so the events after the rising would ultimately lead to the establishing of an Irish Republic. And it's the post Easter Rising trials of the leaders that take center stage in the Documentary.

In total 90 people were sentenced to death most notably all seven Signatories of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic. New documents and records released by the British Government tell different versions of the trial process and offer up new questions. The film looks into the new accounts and also at the effect the executions had in building support for the Irish Republican Brotherhood and fight for a Republic. Did the Hasty actions of British General John Maxwell in having what have since been deemed illegal trials followed very quickly by firing squad Executions make him the man that lost Ireland ? The question is also asked as to why the key figure Eamon de Valera was spared the death penalty ? We may never fully know, when the British eventually released the court martial documents just one was missing de Valera's.

O. J. Simpson Trial: Drama Of The Century

In 1994 former American footballer and Actor O. J. Simpson was charged with the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and a waiter Ronald Lyle Goldman. The trial that began in January 1995 was broadcast on television across the world, attracting huge media coverage making it the most publicized trial in history. Indeed despite the seriousness of the crime the trial played out like a television drama dividing opinion with characters that seemed almost fictional. The documentary 20 years later looks back at the key moments in the trial, the people involved on both the prosecution and defence and what led to the verdict that shook the world.

The Trial Of Saddam Hussein

After the capture of Saddam Hussein in 2003 a number of proposals were put forward as to how he should be tried. Hussein was captured by American special forces and held in an American camp in Iraq, but the decision was made to have an Iraqi court try their former leader of 24 years. In the documentary we see footage of the trial and meet with both prosecution and defence lawyers, strangely including an American former U.S. attorney general Ramsey Clark who would become part of Hussein's defence. The trial was controversial from start to finish with some claiming justice was served and some including Amnesty International declaring it unfair.
