Daniel Tammet is an
autistic savant and this 2005
documentary tells his incredible story. Daniel has a skill set that is totally unique for example he can solve complex mathematical problems in his mind such as recite the numbers in
Pi to 22,500 digits (So he in recalling 22,500 digits in sequence). He also knows nine languages and claims to have the ability to learn a language in just one week. In the documentary they test this by setting the task of learning Swedish in one week to a level whereon he could appear on Swedish TV and converse with the presenters in his new language.
It may seem strange to put someone with autism through testing for the making of a documentary but if Daniel's skills are genuine then we could find out so much more on how he does it. What part of the brain can Daniel tap into in order to carry out such exploits and could we all acquire such skills.
